  • 70’s House extension | Refurbishment

For Highfields Park, we adopted a design approach that is sympathetic to its surroundings in scale and adopted a materiality that reflects the local vernacular. The scheme looks to double the size of the existing to create a 4-bedroom house.

The porch is extended with the same architectural expression as the existing but in a contemporary approach and details. Windows and shutters are replaced to improve the visual appearance and thermal performance of the house.

Towards the rear, the steep slope garden was cut back to create space for the extension. In doing so, this formed a crescent shaped amphitheatre with a new external terrace at ground and an upper lawn area.

The two storey rear extension was a mirror of the existing yet smaller in scale, creating a twin gabled house to the side. A small single storey is then extended beyond to mirror the form of the front entrance to create a contemporary brick and glass block to the rear.
